Westbury Infant School and Resource Base

Friday 11th July

It’s been another hot but thoroughly enjoyable week in Bumblebee Class! The children have been playing beautifully together—taking turns, sharing, and showing real kindness to one another. It’s been lovely to watch their teamwork and friendships continue to grow.

In Drawing Club, we’ve explored the story The Elves and the Shoemaker. The children loved stepping into character as the helpful elves—making their own elf hats, cutting out shoe patterns like the shoemaker, and even pretending to sew the shoes. They’ve shown lots of creativity and imagination! Our star words this week were: delicate, grateful, generous, exhausted, mysterious, surprised, sneaky, and clever—and the children have done a fantastic job using them in their discussions and play.

In Maths, we’ve been learning all about position, direction, and movement. The children had great fun giving each other directions to navigate an obstacle course, programming the Beebots to move around a map, and learning about different types of turns—quarter, half, three-quarter, and whole turns.

Our History work has focused on how the Great Fire of London was finally stopped. The children explored this by using construction kits to create their own fire breaks, helping them understand how stopping the spread of fire played a crucial role.

A brilliant week full of learning, imagination, and teamwork—well done, Bumblebees!
