Westbury Infant School and Resource Base

Friday 10th January

Welcome back and a Happy New Year to you all!  We hope you have all had a lovely Christmas and a relaxing break.  The Bumblebee children have come back into school really well.  They have quickly settled back into routines and have been getting on well and playing nicely together.

This week, in English, we have been reading 'The Lighthouse Keeper's lunch'.  We started by looking at the front cover and making predictions about the story.  We then looked at the main characters and wrote some adjectives to describe them.  Finally, we looked at delicious lunch that Mrs Grinling had packed for Mr Grinling and listed all the yummy foods that we would pack for our own lunches.

In maths, we have been looking at related facts and using these to help us add and subtract.  We have used base 10, numicon and even animals trapped in ice to help us count on and add two number together.  We have also enjoyed exploring the numicon and writing our own number sentences with our friends.

In computing, we have been exploring paint programs and experimenting with the different tools available.  We were then challenged to use these tools to draw pictures of ourselves on the iPads.  It was great fun!

In topic we have been looking at the four seasons and in particular, winter.  We have thought about how people and animals adapt to the colder temperatures and went outside to look at how our environment changes in the winter.  We have also carried out some experiments to see what happens when we try to freeze water, both in the freezer and outside.  We were surprised to find, that even though the temperatures have been so cold outside, the water-filled glove that we placed outside did not freeze at all!  We also explored how we could rescue some animals trapped in the frozen water using warm and cool water and salt.

Next Week:

Tuesday 14th January - Mrs Watts will be out for training.

PE this term will be on Thursdays and Fridays.  Please can the children come into school wearing their PE kits on these days.
