Fabulous Fractions and Remarkable Routes

This week in maths, Panda Class have been learning to recognise fractions and know that each part MUST be EQUAL to be a fraction. So half is sharing into two equal parts or quarters are sharing into four equal parts. I have been very impressed with how quickly they were able to recognise equal parts of shapes or share a number of objects to find half.  Some were also able to find the whole number if they were only given one half.  Fabulous work Pandas!

In Geography we began our new topic on our local area and we began by looking at routes and landmarks.  We had lots of fun choosing our own way to learn about creating routes from home to school and representing landmarks that we might see on our way to school.  We could choose to be creative, to draw, to construct 3D or to write about it to show off our learning.  Some of their ideas were remarkable and demonstrated their creativity and attention to detail. We also started looking at human and physical features, recognising that human features are man-made such as shops, buildings and bridges and physical features are natural such as the White Horse hill, rivers, trees and lakes.

Pandas remarkable routes

In English we have been thinking about how to care for a rabbit a a pet and writing instructions about it.  We have enjoyed playing some games online too, to help us recognise and remember when to use a full stop.  If you would like to play the game at home here is the link.

Please continue to read daily - just 5 minutes is making a huge difference to their confidence, sound knowledge and speed.  Please also continue using the phonics sound cards as the phonics screening check is just around the corner and we want everyone to pass.

Thank you to everyone who has volunteered to help us on our local walk next week.  We cannot do these activities without your continued support and really appreciate your help.  Please send your child into school with a sunhat now the weather is hotting up.

Have a lovely weekend x
