Disco Dancing Meerkats!

Who doesn’t love a disco on a Friday?? What at a wonderful way to finish another great week.  The children all looked amazing in their disco clothes and we danced in class throughout the day but the highlight was definitely the school hall disco for all of the KS1 children at the end of the day.  Thank you all for the donations sent in.

Linking to our disco, the children wrote fantastic codes in Drawing Club today when they wrote about how Lila celebrated with the villagers by having a party when the rain came.  The children have really enjoyed this story and the added Kenyan traditional music really got them in the party mood.  Here’s a link if you would like to share this lovely story with your child at home.

In PE this week we needed to work as a team and communicate with each other to successfully complete the ‘hoop’ challenge.  It was fantastic to see the children help and support each other to all pass through the hoop without breaking the seal of the circle.  As the photos show the children had great fun and we finished with a race which resulted in lots of laughs, shouts of encouragement and support for each other.  We also continued with practicing our skipping skills in outdoor PE.  The children have shown such resilience and determination.  We talked about how skipping can be tricky and broke the process down, thinking about how we turn the rope, how high to jump and when.  If you have a skipping rope at home please do encourage and support you child with this skill as we aim for all children to be able to do 5 skips by the end of the year.

We thought about the benefits of using IT in computing this week.  We looked at the IT used in a supermarket and then took on the role of the scanner, the till and the customer to identify how IT works when we turned the classroom into a shop.  The scanner and till children had to work as a team to price up the customers shopping.  We quickly realised that in the shop it’s much quicker ‘when it just beeps when you swipe’.

It was all about number bonds in maths.  First, we identified the number bonds to 10 before using this knowledge to find the number bonds to 20.  We used the tens frames, cube towers and the numicon before recording what we knew.  Here’s the Number Blocks telling us all about our friends to ten.

Trip – Wednesday 8th October

Next Wednesday we have our first trip of the year, a visit to Stourhead.  We are really looking forward to it.  The children need to wear comfortable clothes and their school jumpers. Joggers or leggings are ideal. Comfortable shoes, trainers or wellies are a must as there is a lot of walking. A small backpack will be needed for the children to carry their lunch (a packed lunch and bottle of water will be provided for all children).  Thank you to the parents who have kindly volunteered to join us.

 A shout out for helpers:

We will be attending All Saints Church, Westbury for our annual Harvest Service on Thursday 16th October.  If you are able to walk with us as a helper please let myself or one of the team know.  We will be leaving school at 1.35pm and be back by 3pm.   Helpers will need to be able to walk there and back with us.  For those joining us at the church, the service will start at 2pm.  Thank you to those parents who have already said they can walk with us but we do still need some more.

Next week, I will be in class Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.  Mrs Millard will be teaching Meerkat Class on Monday.  Our wonderful TAs, Miss Smith and Miss Lloyd will be in every day.

Wishing you all a very happy and cosy weekend.
