Chicks and Poetry!
The children were very surprised to have a lovely visit from some chicks and their mum on Tuesday! We have been writing poetry based on our book 'Out and About', on Monday we gathered ideas for different adjectives and rhyming words for chicks, this prompted Mrs Millard to bring in her hen and chicks from home. The poems turned out fantastic! In addition, the children were able to explore wind in our English lesson. We went outside with different streamers and light objects to see and describe how the wind moved. We came up with different words and phrases to put them in sentences by the end of the lesson.
In maths, we continued our ’Money’ block this week and looked at calculating amounts using money. We practised a life skill of buying things from the shop, working out how much we would need to buy the items and what change we would need. The children loved setting up their own shops and showing off everything they had learned.
We completed our science ‘Seasons’ unit and they children made some fabulous information wheels and presented all of their learning in a colourful pictorial ‘show me what you know’. They had a bonus challenge of making an object from one of the seasons out of cubes, and as you can see, the children were very creative and did an amazing job. Next week we begin our geography unit ‘Where is our school and what is it like in our town?’. For this, we are going for an afternoon walk around Westbury on Wednesday 14th May. Please let me know if you are able to come along to support.
In PE, the children worked on their fielding and batting skills. They have practised their under arm throw and, this week, their over arm throw. As a reminder, PE has returned to Mondays and Fridays now Panda class are not swimming.
Please ensure reading records and reading books are brought into school every day in case we have a moment to read with the children. And that books are returned EVERY Friday to be swapped for a new one.
