Beans, fire talk and comic strips
What a fantastic term, full of amazing learning and fun! Today, we ended the term with an Easter egg hunt. The children loved running around the trim trail to find their matching egg, and then we were surprised to find the Easter bunny had left us a chocolate egg for all of our hard work!
We also had the Easter Service in All Saints Church on Tuesday. The children sang and performed their poems beautifully. We enjoyed a sunny walk to the church and the children behaved impeccably during the service. The Meerkats and Leopards joined together to perform ‘There once was an Egg…’. They were fantastic!
In English lessons, we have continued to focus on the book Oliver's Vegetables, with the children planning and writing their own versions of the story in a comic strip style. They have created some fabulous work and put in to practice the skills that we have been working on throughout the term.
In Maths, we have been learning about statistics- tallies, block diagrams and pictograms. We have been creating our own diagrams as well as reading and interpreting ones that have been made already. As a final activity, the children collected their own data of our favourite ice-cream flavours. They all did a great job!
On Wednesday, Davina from the Wiltshire Fire Service joined us in school. She showed us the protective clothing worn by firefighters, and some super little volunteers put them for us all to see. She also explained the importance of fire alarms in the home and what to do when the alarm sounds, before showing the children how to make a 999 call if there is a fire. We also listened to the story ‘No dragons for tea.' Here’s the link if you would like to share it at home https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=loMxue1GtyE
We finished our ‘Plants – What is growing on our local area’ topic this week. Spring has certainly been the perfect time for this learning and each day we have seen our learning come to life in our local area. We have observed the changes to our beans in the experiment we set up in class ‘growing beans in a bag’ and I have taken some of the shoots home to plant up for the children.
Hope you all have a lovely Easter break and we will see you back on Tuesday 22nd April.
