Africa and Timmy the Tortoise

Well I can’t quite believe we are half way through Term 4! Time flies when you are having so much fun! And fun we have had this week in Wallaby Class.

Today Wallabies enjoyed Faraway Friday in Africa!  Aeroplanes were set up in the classroom and the children were given their passports and they looked at Google Earth to see where they were travelling to.  Wallabies enjoyed watching videos of all the animals they might see and even enjoyed learning an African dance.  They made African necklaces and had a go in the construction area at making some mountains and rivers.  They made animal enclosures with the tiles and enjoyed African colouring in pictures.  They looked at pictures of African Tribes and had lots of African artefacts to see.  Lots of the children dressed up in African clothes as well.  What a fun afternoon!  The highlight of the day was meeting Timmy the Tortoise who came to visit Wallabies.  They all held him and were all so brave.

In Drawing Club this week, we have been ready Handa’s Surprise https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XyIV_xYi0as.  Here is a link to the story if you would like to watch it at home.  We have learnt some exciting new Vocabulary (Perched, Oblivious, Precarious, Oasis, Traipsed, Shade and Healthy), putting actions to these. In Maths, we have been subitising amounts to 10, looking at one more and one less as well as number bonds to 10.  They have been busy!!

In topic, we have been looking at the Easter story and signs of new beginnings.  We have finished our Collages and this week chose an animal to cut around and stick onto our collage.  I have been so impressed with how hard the children have been working on their cutting skills.  They have all improved so much over the last few weeks.

Next Week:

Tuesday 18th and Wednesday 19th is Parents Evening.

Friday 21st is our school trip to Hope Nature Centre.

On April 1st, if you would like to walk up to the Church in Westbury, please let us know- the more the merrier!

Have a lovely weekend and enjoy the sunshine.
