A warm welcome to the Marvellous Meerkats!

Firstly, may I say a very warm welcome to you all.  What a marvellous and busy first week Meerkat Class have had.  The children have been wonderful and already we have seen the children working together as a team just like their class namesakes!  Myself and the Meerkat Team are very proud of them all and the gem jar is filling up already – Keep it up Marvellous Meerkats!

This week we have shared and enjoyed a number of stories together.  Our class book was ‘Meerkat’s Exciting Adventure’ by Gail Clarke.  We used the text as inspiration for our Drawing Club and the children have wowed us all with their imagination and great vocabulary, alongside some fabulous sentences.  In maths, we have begun exploring numbers through games, sequence creations and have used a variety of resources to make numbers up to 10.  Next week we begin our science topic ‘Who lives here and why?’  Knowledge Organisers were sent home on Friday, please do have a look with your child to see what we will be learning.

The children joined their new RWI groups this week to meet their RWI leaders and Book Bag reading books will be sent home next Friday for you to share with your child. Books and reading journals will now be sent home in a clear folder.  Please send this folder into school every day and do visit the RWI blog to access resources to support your child.  If your child is unsure of their group, please do ask one of the Meerkats Class Team and we will let you know.

PE is on Monday (indoor) and Thursday (outdoor) for Meerkat Class and children will need to come to school in their PE kit on those days:

  • A plain white t-shirt
  • Black shorts/joggers
  • When PE is in the hall, the children are barefoot and when PE is outside, their normal school shoes are perfectly adequate to be able to take part safely. Daps can be sent in if you prefer, but are not essential.
  • Children can wear their school sweatshirt/cardigan

Just a reminder:

As we are a ‘slipper school’, the children take their shoes off once inside the building.  If your child is unable to untie and tie their own laces, please can their school shoes be slip on or Velcro instead.  Please ensure that your child’s uniform, including hats, coats and lunchboxes, are labelled – it really does make it easier to identify and reunite children and their belongings.  Thank you 😊

A shout out for helpers:

Our first trip of the year will be Stourhead on Wednesday 8th October.  If you are able to join us as a helper please let myself or one of the team know.  Thank you.

Here’s a link to the letter with all of the trip information. https://www.westbury-inf.wilts.sch.uk/Noticeboard/Letters-Home-2/

The new dinner menu is on the website, please do look at the menu with your child to help them when choosing their daily option.  https://www.westbury-inf.wilts.sch.uk/Noticeboard/Lunch-Menus/

Next week, I will be in class Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, and Mrs Millard will be teaching Meerkat Class on Thursday.  Our wonderful TAs, Miss Smith and Miss Lloyd will be in every day.

Wishing you all a very happy and relaxing weekend, and we look forward to seeing you all on Monday!
