Friday 28th November

What a wonderful week we have had in class! The children have been busy exploring stories, seasons, shapes and more, and it has been lovely to see their enthusiasm and creativity shine through in every activity.

In Drawing Club, we have been looking closely at the beautiful story Winter Dance. The children thought carefully about where the fox might sleep to stay warm in the snow and imagined all the magical things he might see as he twirled through his winter dance. They created their own finger puppets, made handprint woodland animals, and used playdough and buttons to decorate hats, scarves, gloves and even snowmen. One of the highlights was making a moving fox, which everyone found great fun. Our star words for the week were:
⭐ discover
⭐ journey
⭐ tremble
⭐ wonder
⭐ prepare
⭐ whisper

In science, we have been learning about the seasons. We began with autumn, talking about the months of September, October and November, and noticing how the leaves change colour, fall from the trees and how the temperature becomes colder. We also discussed how the hours of daylight start to shorten and thought about the festivals we celebrate during this season. Together, we created a large autumn tree using sugar paper.  We then moved on to winter, learning that December, January and February bring even colder weather and sometimes snow. After looking at winter pictures, the children noticed that many trees are bare at this time of year. We talked about icy mornings and evenings, winter festivals and then made our own snowy tree pictures. The children also enjoyed exploring a winter tuff tray filled with frosty, seasonal objects.

In maths, some of us have been learning about 2D and 3D shapes. We named them, counted their sides and vertices, and had a go at drawing them, too. The rest of the children have been working on finding 1 more and 1 less. Using counters and cubes helped us visualise the numbers, and we used a clear stem sentence to explain our answers.

We are really proud of how hard the children have worked this week. Their curiosity, confidence and teamwork have been fantastic to see, and we are excited for even more learning adventures together next week!
