“I’m Stickman, I’m Stickman, I’m Stickman that’s me!’

This week, children have enjoyed another great book written by Julia Donaldson. The week started with the class finding a letter from Stickman saying he was lost and that he needed us to message his family. Children enjoyed coming up with their own message for Stickman and making a map to show where he needs to go. They enjoyed coming up with symbols for the map that could represent some of the things he saw whilst he was away from his family. It has been wonderful to see the children creating their own pictures from the story and many having a go at writing cvc words independently. We have continued using pen disco and dough disco to continue to improve our gross motor and fine motor skills which aid our writing

In mathswe have focused on one more and one less of numbers to 5 and used five frames to help represent this. The children are really grasping how to use a five frame confidently as well as answering in full sentences e.g. One more than 3 is 4, one less than 3 is 2. They also enjoyed building towers with cubes and following instructions to add or take away one.

In RE we began to think about why we celebrate Christmas and they enjoyed children listening to the Christmas Story from a children’s Bible. There were some lovely discussions about what part of the story they enjoyed the most and how Mary may have felt at various points in the story. Some children then went off to recreate the story in the small world area as well as others building a stable in the construction area.

Next week Nativity practice will be well underway! The songs can be found on YouTube by typing in Wriggly Nativity so it would be wonderful if you can play these at home to help your child to learn them. We have already started listening to these in class.
