What a lovely week we’ve had in class!
We started off with Odd Sock Day, which gave us the chance to talk about anti-bullying and how we all have the power to be kind through our words and actions. It was great to see everyone’s bright and colourful socks – a wonderful reminder that it’s okay to be different!
On Tuesday, we marked Remembrance Day. We created our own war memorials, made posters and poppies to help people remember the fallen soldiers, and joined together for a two-minute silence at 11 o’clock. This tied in beautifully with our Drawing Club story, Where the Poppies Now Grow. We explored lots of creative ways to make poppies: printing them, using collage materials, painting them with q-tips in a pointillism style, and even cutting and sticking our own poppy wreaths.
Our star words for the week were:
⭐ brave
⭐ march
⭐ charge
⭐ enemy
⭐ dangerous
⭐ injured
In maths, some of us have been exploring shapes – especially circles, triangles, and squares. We’ve identified and described them, sorted them by their properties, and even gone on a hunt to find them in our environment. Others have been working on partitioning two-digit numbers into tens and ones, and then finding different ways to partition them. We used this understanding to help us place numbers accurately on a blank number line – tricky but very rewarding work!
In music, we’ve been learning about pitch. We listened carefully to a piece of music and used our hands to follow whether the sounds were high or low. It was lots of fun and helped us really think about how music moves.
In computing, we explored the difference between taking photos in portrait and landscape. We took pictures of our friends and of objects around the school in both orientations, then discussed which looked better and why. We decided that portrait works best for people, while landscape is perfect for capturing the environment.
We finished the week with a cosy celebration for Children in Need, coming to school in our pyjamas! It was a lovely way to end a busy week of learning, creativity, and kindness.
