• Friday 21 July 2023 Goodbye! This is the final blog post of the year, and what a year it has been. Nothing could have been possible without the hard work and support you have given the children.
• Friday 14 July 2023 Firefly Cars It has been a hive of activity in Firefly Class this week. In Maths we have continued to work on our vocabulary of position and direction. We had a character called Ron and we had to move him to different parts of the grid giving clear instructions for our partner to follow. Then we took our learning outside and made our own grids with different place to direct our partner to,
• Thursday 6 July 2023 Another Week! It’s another week moving closer to the end of term.
• Thursday 29 June 2023 More cars and Maths This week has all been about our transition to the Junior School. The children had the most wonderful time looking around the school and making stomp rockets. They have come back buzzing about their new teachers and they are very excited. The children have made pictures and talked about their qualities to show their new teacher.
• Thursday 22 June 2023 Cars! Wow!
• Friday 16 June 2023 Weighing, Assembly Lines and Running! What a scorcher! It has been amazingly warm this week however, the children have coped amazingly. They have certainly taken on board that they needed to drink lots of water and it has been brilliant to see them independently taking themselves off to rehydrate.
• Thursday 8 June 2023 Cars, Cars, Cars! What a bang! There is only one topic of conversation this week in class.
• Thursday 25 May 2023 The final result! Wow!
• Wednesday 17 May 2023 Puppets Hopefully, the children have come home this week and told you about the wonderful puppets they have been making. As part of their DT topic, the children have been designing their hand puppet which they then had to transfer to making and sewing. They had to clearly follow their design down to choosing the colour of the thread and the detail they added.
• Friday 12 May 2023 Drumming and Sewing Wow! Another short but incredibly busy week in Firefly class. The children have had the most wonderful time. It started off well with a wonderful drumming workshop to round off our topic on Kenya. The children each had a drum to experience what it was like. Where they hit the drum made a different sound, the inside was the base and the outside was called the slap. We then had to learn a rhythm and keep in time with Oumar, Mrs Russam was his apprentice! (She still has a lot to learn!) Then we finished off with a good old dance to Waka Waka which got everyone enjoying themselves.
• Friday 5 May 2023 Coronation Celebrations What a fabulous day we've had celebrating the King's coronation! We started the day learning an Irish dance and then we learnt all about the coronation ceremony. We drew portraits of the King and played several different games including 'King Charles says' and 'King's corner'. In preparation for our street party, some of us made cucumber sandwiches and some of us made jam sandwiches which was great fun. Then in the afternoon we got together with our other friends in Year Two and had a street party where there were delicious treats for us to eat.
• Thursday 27 April 2023 Time and Kenya Another super week, time is whizzing by!
• Wednesday 19 April 2023 Welcome Back! It has been the most magical start to the term. It's been wonderful to welcome the children back and they have come back ready to learn. It's hard to believe that we have reached the last two terms in school.
• Tuesday 28 March 2023 It's only Tuesday! I know it is only Tuesday, however I felt the need to blog after a busy few days and to put your mind at rest about some of the stories you might have been told about certain activities going on at school this afternoon!
• Wednesday 22 March 2023 Scientists! What a wonderful week it has been in Firefly class.
• Wednesday 15 March 2023 Wild Place Project I'm hoping that by the time you are reading this you will have heard about the most wonderful day we had. The Wild Place Project was AMAZING! This trip linked with our current Science topic looking at habitats and after Easter we move on to comparing a non-European country so will be studying Kenya.
• Sunday 12 March 2023 Amazing Art What a fantastic surprise to wake up to snow this week. It was lovely to hear how some of the children had been out playing, whereas other decided to take the inside option!
• Thursday 2 March 2023 Art and Maths! It has been another really busy week in Firefly class.
• Wednesday 22 February 2023 Bubbles and Sketching Welcome back!
• Thursday 9 February 2023 Halfway Through! This week has been positively AMAZING! It was so great to welcome you all in for the parent event on Monday afternoon. The children really enjoyed sharing their learning with you and making the medals. Thank you all for coming in. We really do appreciate your support. We are now officially halfway through the year!
• Wednesday 1 February 2023 Florence Nightingale The highlight of the week so far has to be a visit the Year 2 children had from Trowbridge Museum. We took part in 3 different workshops to help consolidate our understanding of our History topic about Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole.
• Wednesday 25 January 2023 Music and Maths What an absolutely fabulous week it has been in Firefly Class. The children are positively blossoming.
• Thursday 19 January 2023 Super Scientists! Wow! What a fantastic week it has been in Firefly class, they are on fire!!
• Friday 13 January 2023 Money and Materials This week Firefly class have started new topics in both Maths and Science.
• Friday 6 January 2023 Happy New Year As the title say, Happy New Year! I do hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and managed to avoid all the nasty bugs. The children returned to school with wonderful smiles and looking a lot taller! They all seem to have grown over the holiday!
• Wednesday 14 December 2022 Christmas Time What a wonderful week it has been in Firefly Class. We have really got into the Christmas spirit and enjoyed some arts and crafts. The highlight of the week was having some wrapping paper, 3D shapes and sellotape, the children spent the afternoon wrapping presents for others to open.
• Friday 9 December 2022 Christmas is coming! It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas! The production rehearsals are in full swing and we can’t wait to see you at our performances next Wednesday at 10.00 or Thursday at 2.00. You can have a little sneak peak at our rehearsal pictures. Please remember there will be a tombola and the children's Christmas crafts after the afternoon performance.
• Friday 2 December 2022 Another Fabulous Week Firefly class are going from strength to strength. They are positively bubbling each day and taking everything in their stride.
• Thursday 24 November 2022 New Topics! What a wet and windy week in Firefly class! This week has seen the start of new topics in both Science and Maths.
• Tuesday 15 November 2022 Portraits This week has seen the end of the Thomas Gainsborough topic for Firefly and Bees. They consolidated all the skills they have been taught over the past three weeks and painted their own portraits. They had to follow the rules carefully, then mix the colours using the powder paint to make the right skin tone.
